An international team of 4 operators has been in Benin Africa for a period of 2 weeks starting March 15th 2006. The operations started on 40m with TY5MR around 20:40z on the 16th of March. They tried to be active around the clock, but off course that was ver yhard with just a 4 members team. On the 17th they finished building the setup and were fully operational oon all bands from 160-10m.
They were using 4 different callsigns ( each operator had it's own) .
Ronald, TY5WP (PA3EWP)( Look at TY5WP licence ), Tom, TY4TW ( GM4FDM) Claudia TY5LEO( K2LEO) and Andrea,TY5MR( IK1PMR).
There were 3 complete HF stations available, and sometimes they were all 3 on the air at the same moment. Interference between them made it sometimes impossible to operate on more than one band at a time. The antenna's in use were monoband antenna's for 30-160m and a multiband spiderbeam for 20-10m. Beside that they had setup some extra dipoles and verticals and a variety or RX antenna's for the low bands. The dxpedition went QRT at 23.00z on the 30th of March 2006 ( midnight local time ), the end of their valid licence.

Since 1982 I am active on the amateur bands. My first calls on VHF and UHF
were PD0NAL and PE1JSV. From the beginning I liked contesting even on VHF. 5
years later I got my HF license as PA3EWP. I joined the local contestgroup 2
years later. Which is now PI4COM. This station has become the biggest
multi/multi station in the Netherlands (more info: www.pi4com.nl).
In 1994 I was bitten by the DX-bug and from that moment I went once or twice
a year on DX-pedition. I have operated now from 29 DXCC countries. TY will
be number 30 and my last continent. I have never operated from Africa
before. The most interesting DX-peditions were: J7, VP2M, TI9, T30, T33 and
PZ. Not only for this hobby, but also for the civilization and nature.
From home I am active from 2 till 160 meter. But during the major contest I
will be at the contest location as PI4COM, PA6WPX or PA6HQ.
My preferred mode was always SSB, but in the last 2 years CW starts to
become the preferred mode. I like also RTTY and a little bit PSK and SSTV
(the last 2 modes only for a few hours from a rare spot).
I am looking forward joining this international team and like to discover
operating from a new continent (Work From All Continent award).
I hope to meet you in the pile-up or have a nice conversation during one of
my lectures about my latest DX-peditions.

Benin is a republic on the westcoast of Africa, 112600 square kilometers big with some 7 million inhabitans, mainly living on the south coast at the gulf of Guinee (atlantic ocean).

The team will built up their camp on that south coast just west of Cotonou at 'Jarden
Helvetia' a real nice looking holliday resort.
|
It's likely the operators will sometimes leave the radio.....just for a few minutes maybe..to enjoy the nice beach, just a few minutes from their hamradio shack.

As things look right now they will operate with the following equipment;

|
| Antennas: |

When there's any news to tell you can find it all here ....but it seems the closest available internet connection is some 12km away, so there probably won't be much updates.
